Piper Kerman was thrilled at the lovely cake created by local baking artist Donna Risch; Piper showed this moving graphic during her chat with the audience about what can happen to a community when vital services, such as libraries, close - Prison doors open; Piper demonstrating points (above and below) about her moving memoir describing her 13 months in jail following a conviction on money laundering and how this experience has made her an advocate for prison reform.

THE cake, with the cover of Piper Kerman's memoir and now television series - Orange is the New Black; refreshments abound and many regular attendees arrived early knowing the wonderful goodies the Hospitality committee would serve. There was plenty for all.
Piper listens intently to avid fans as they request a personal inscription as well as her autograph;
The owners of the Open Door Bookstore in Schenectady were on hand with plenty of books to buy for autographing.
