VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES

Get Out the Vote
Working throughout the year, this committee informs our membership and Library patrons of the next budget vote and implements a plan to get out the vote.

Hospitality
This committee supports functions and events supported by the Friends when requested. The committee welcomes anyone who likes to bake, to help supply refreshments, or to assist as host/hostess at programs. There is time for fellowship and working with members of Friends - no planning, organizing, or hard work involved.

Library Ambassadors
Library Ambassadors welcome visitors and are available to give tours and provide information to visitors.

Membership
This committee promotes new and renewed Friends memberships, maintains membership records, and assists with book sales by managing new member applications during the sale.

Newsletter
The Friends quarterly newsletter, Book Friendly, features book reviews, writing selections by Friends, coverage of Friends events, and information about upcoming events. Additional contributors are always welcomed.

Outreach
This committee keeps the presence of the Library vital in the community by donating books and magazines, pens, pencils, crayons, and drawing pencils; donating books to the military; making and distributing bookmarks for seniors, youngsters and the New Baby program delivering books for special programs, to seniors and people who are homebound; and supporting programs like dog therapy, the New Baby program, the Scholastic Buy One-Get One Free sales, the Shatekon Literacy Project, and Parents as Reading Partners.

Plant Swap and Sale
Each year on the first Saturday in June, we host a swapping opportunity for gardeners to exchange some of the gardening books and magazines, extra perennials that come up each year, or annual seedlings that were just too numerous. Many gardeners just bring plants for the Friends to sell, adding to the funds we use for activities and services for the Library community. We always need people to plan the event as well as set up and clean up folks, sales people, and cashiers.

Publicity
Help us increase public awareness of the Friends and its contributions to the Library and community through newspaper ads, articles, and pictures; newsletter updates; flyers; posters; bookmarks; postings for the Clifton Park and Halfmoon websites - we especially need help in updating electronic calendars on the many social media sites that list community activities.

Two Towns-One Book
Become part of the Two Towns-One Book Committee to screen nominated books, plan events and publicity, and/or put on the many activities associated with this community-wide read.

Used Book Sales
The Friends conduct three used book sales each year each fall, winter, and spring, as well as occasional themed mini-sales. All money raised supports Friends programs for the Library. Volunteers sort books, set up and take down sale areas, and sell books during sales.
